Maybe it's because some of the hummus I've tried was a long time ago - before organic became really tastey - not just good for you...or maybe it was because it stunk of too much raw garlic and I swear I always could smell patchouli....and old Birkenstock...But I digress.
Anyway - it's a whole new world with organic and detox food being Detox Delish, right? Here's your recipe - I encourage you to make this your own!!! That's what I do - I add my own signature ingredients to cater to my palate AND to serve my body...if it's Delish - my soul loves it too!
2 cans organic chickpeas (non BPA, etc) Drained - reserve some fluid
1/3 C tahini
1/3 C Organic olive oil
4 cloves raw or 6 cloves roasted garlic or 3 tbls minced garlic from a jar (I'm not that proud!!!)
6 TBLS fresh lemon juice or organic from a bottle
sea salt to taste
Herbs and spices of of choice*****
Special Add ins******
Put everything in food processor - DO NOT remove skins from chick peas unless you really want to get aggravated and not make it ever again. No-one is really worth you skinning tiny beans to get a creamier hummus. Blend with S blade until you get a consistency that you like. Try it - scrape the bottom - pulse and blend again. ****Special Add-ins - These are for toppings!! Warm your hummus and add toasted pepitas or sunflower seeds, hemp hearts, chopped olives with red pepper puree...pesto, shredded cultured carrots, sauerkraut, - make a little center to you hummus and fill it up with yummy add-ins! Serve with my homemade crackers and you will have an orgasm in your mouth. You will. Try it!
